We’re incredibly proud to share that New Amsterdam Café has been officially recognized as Canada’s first-ever Cannabis Tourism Operator of the Year.
This honour — presented by the Canadian Cannabis Tourism Alliance — shines a national spotlight on the work we’ve been doing to help normalize and celebrate cannabis hospitality through events, community building, and cultural spaces like the Cannabis Hospitality Summit and the Café itself.
Here’s the official press release with all the details.
Vancouver, BC – In a landmark moment for Canada’s cannabis tourism industry, New Amsterdam Cafe has been awarded the 2025 Cannabis Tourism Operator of the Year by the Canadian Cannabis Tourism Alliance (CCTA) — the first award of its kind recognizing excellence in cannabis hospitality and tourism.
The award was officially presented on June 27 at the High! Canada Green Tie Gala in Waterdown, Ontario. Hosted at 643 Robson Road, the evening celebrated both the launch of the first Canadian Cannabis Tourism Awards and the final (100th) issue of High! Canada Magazine, marking a major milestone in Canadian cannabis media and culture.
New Amsterdam Cafe, along with its industry-forward event — the Cannabis Hospitality Summit — was chosen from a competitive field of national contenders. The CCTA selection panel cited the Cafe’s “creativity, inclusivity, and dedication to excellence” as key reasons behind their decision.
“We’re deeply honoured,” said Kaylz S., General Manager of New Amsterdam Cafe and Founder of the Cannabis Hospitality Summit. “This isn’t just a win for us — it’s a huge moment for anyone working to normalize, celebrate, and expand cannabis hospitality and tourism in Canada. We’re proud to be part of shaping what’s next.”
“Amsterdam Cafe has been the welcome mat for more than two million visiting stoners over the years — and yet, we’re still just scratching the surface of the kinds of memories and experiences we can help shape for travelers. This is still very much our ‘try new things out’ phase, and we’re just getting started.” said Jorah, owner of New Amsterdam Cafe
Since 1998, New Amsterdam Cafe has served as a pillar of cannabis culture in Vancouver. In recent years, it has evolved into a hub for cannabis tourism — hosting immersive experiences, consumer-focused events, and the groundbreaking Cannabis Hospitality Summit, which brings together leaders in infused dining, lounge operations, regulatory strategy, and experiential tourism.
To celebrate the win, New Amsterdam Cafe will host a community event on Wednesday, July 23, from 4PM to 9PM at its Blunt Bros Lounge (lower level). The gathering will include food, music, giveaways, and a toast to the future of cannabis tourism in Canada. RSVP Here:
The Cannabis Tourism Operator of the Year award is one of three inaugural honours presented by the CCTA this year, with plans to expand the program annually in recognition of the growing impact of cannabis-friendly travel and hospitality experiences.
